Integrated Reporting Network Türkiye’s 1. Ordinary General Meeting and The panel of “Development of Capital Markets and Integrated Reporting from Investor Perspective” was held on December 19, 2019. This organization was hosted by Borsa İstanbul.

Borsa Istanbul General Manager, Vice Chair of the Board of Director Mehmet Hakan Atilla, International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) CEO Charles Tilley (video message) and Chair of Integrated Reporting Network Türkiye Prof. Guler Aras performed the opening speeches. At the meeting, “Development of Capital Markets and Integrated Reporting from Investor Perspective” panel was held.

Borsa Istanbul General Manager, Vice Chair of the Board of Director Mehmet Hakan Atilla, expressed in his opening speech:

Integrated Reporting is a new approach and a new style of thinking for Turkish Instutions. While financial reports provide past information, integrated reports are important in that they include the predictions about the future. The establishment of Integrated Reporting Network Türkiye is the most important step supporting to develop this reporting system in Turkey. The establishment of ERTA was announced to the public on February 15, 2016 with a gong ceremony held in our Exchange. Since then, our Exchange continues to keep integrated reporting to the agenda of companies with the events held every year. We, as Borsa İstanbul, will continue to support for development of the integrated reporting in Turkey. “I think it would be beneficial to include the opinions of employees as well as the opinions of the managers in the integrated reports. I would like to share this proposal with you."

The Chair of Integrated Reporting Network Türkiye, Prof. Guler Aras, has had a presentation about the activities of ERTA from 2016 to 2019. In her speech, Aras said, “Institutions have to respond to the demand of stakeholders who want to know the impact and the value they create, along with the financial results of their activities, on people, society and the environment. Integrated reporting has become the mainstream reporting scheme which responds the stakeholders’ information needs, stakeholder-oriented business and value creation in this new order. Besides, in nowadays needs, this reporting scheme proposes whatever should be included in the annual reports.

The importance of proliferation of this kind of qualify information tools has had a place which can’t be ignored for investor’s ability to trade securely in the capital market. Integrated reporting was given a place in the action plan of 2020 of Coordination Council for the Improvement of Investment Environment, as a result of our collaboration with our public and other stakeholders. This was the most tangible example of the development in this area. ERTA will continue its activities by increasing its effectiveness in order to create value with all its stakeholders in the new period.”

IIRC Ceo Charles Tilley mentioned the IIRC’s following year plans at the event with a special video message and said:

The multi-capital model that focuses on creating value creates concrete changes in the organizations' thought and communication plans. We are working on an introductory guidebook which will include practical steps for practicing, will be published in 2020. We will also share an introductory model which conveys of various companies experiences on integrated reporting. We are planning to make some updates in the Integrated Reporting Framework.

The main feature of integrated reporting is that its principles are flexible and can adapt to local regulations and also it is the global name of value creation. We are working to proliferation integrated reporting globally with our collaboration with Integrated Reporting Network Türkiye and the other local platforms.”

After opening speeches, “Development of Capital Markets and Integrated Reporting from Investor Perspective” panel was held. Ediz Günsel, vice chair of Business Council for Sustainable Development Türkiye, moderated the panel, Deputy General Manager of Borsa İstanbul Mehmet Gönen, Chair of Business Council for Sustainable Development Turkey Ebru Dildar Edin, Capital Markets Board Partnership Finance Department Chief Expert İbrahim Onur Baysal, chair of Turkish Institutional Investment Managers’ Association Selim Yazıcı and Deputy Manager of Industrial Development Bank of Turkey Ece Börü took part as speakers.

In the Integrated Reporting Network Türkiye’s 1. Ordinary General Meeting Prof. Guler Aras (As chair), Borsa İstanbul A.Ş., Turkish Industry and Business Association , Global Compact Türkiye, International Integrated Reporting Council – IIRC Ambassador to Turkey, Business Council for Sustainable Development Turkey, Corporate Governance Association of Turkey, Arguden Governance Academy, Çimsa, Garanti BBVA, Allianz Turkey, İşbank, Turkısh Institutional Investment Managers’ Association, Türkiye Sınai Kalkınma Bankası, Turkish Invertors Relations Society and VakıfBank were elected to the executive board for new period and EY Turkey, KPMG Turkey and Mazars Denge was elected for audit board.

Integrated Reporting Network Turkey will continue its activities by increasing its effectiveness in order to create value with its new members and all its stakeholders in the new period.
